Succumb to Kyoto"s press and concede 3 goals only in the first half. In the second half, Reiya Sakata and Rui Osako make their professional debuts, but suffer a regrettable defeat.

After a three-day interval from the latest league match. Cerezo Osaka boarded the away stadium and challenged the group stage Section 3 of the J.League YBC Levain Cup against Kyoto Sanga F.C. The starting lineups were changed for 10 players from the league match, excluding Riku Matsuda. Capixaba made his first starter in the official match, and Sota Kitano entered the U-21 roster slot following the previous section.

In the game that was kicked off in pouring rain, it was Cerezo who took the first opportunity. Capixaba, who came out to Kakeru Funaki"s vertical pass, raised a cross from the side, and Mutsuki Kato reacted to it slipping, but his shot went to the front of the GK. Then, in the 6th minute, they conceded a goal. They were shaken from the left side to the right side, and they were unable to repel a cross from the right side inside, and Temma Matsuda received it on the opposite side and scored. In the following 8th minute, they conceded a second goal. This time, when the vertical pass between the opponent DFs from Funaki to Kato was cut, it was directly connected to the front line of Kyoto, and Sora Hiraga scored from the dribble.
In the 20th minute, Capixaba stole the ball from the front and created a chance. Kato matched the cross with a header, but unfortunately it went out of the frame. Then, right after this, when the pass exchange misaligned in their own half, the pass was cut again, their side was broken through, and then they conceded another goal. It was a tough start as they lost 3 goals in the 21st minute of the first half.

“I think the beginning of the match was everything. We challenged the game after fully understanding the opponent’s way of game entry and game plan, but we seriously received the opponent’s intense attack”, Manager Akio Kogiku summarized this section. However, in this match, Cerezo"s build-up did not work in their own half, and Kyoto pressed, intercepted and brought the ball to the shots. At the end of the first half, they showed improvement somehow to make starting points at a high position and push in, but it was the worst first half of the season.

In the second half, Manager Kogiku made substitutions for two players. Leo Ceara was sent in instead of Jordy Croux, and Reiya Sakata instead of Hinata Kida, and the system was also changed to [4-1-4-1] with Riki Harakawa as the anchor and Kato and Kitano in the shadow strikers.

In order to catch up with the 3-point difference, Manager set up more aggressively. Cerezo went on the offensive right from the start and got several set-pieces, but while they were unable to make use of them, they lost another point in the 52nd minute. The fourth conceded goal made them lose momentum for fighting back. Even so, Kyoto"s DF left the pitch in the 55th minute for his second caution of the day, and Cerezo had a numerical advantage for the rest of the time. From here, Cerezo tried to reach the Kyoto goal again and again, centering on Capixaba on the left side and Sakata on the right side, but one point was far for them. In the 72nd and 78th minutes, Sakata, who made his professional debut in his hometown of Kyoto on this day, created the scoring chances, but the shots were blocked by the GK and they were unable to shake the net. In the 79th minute, following Sakata, Rui Osako made his professional debut. In place of Funaki, he entered the left SB. In the additional time of the second half, Osako became the starting point, and Leo Ceara got a scoring chance for header from a cross of Capixaba, but the GK stopped it and the game was over. Cerezo were unable to bounce back from the behind that they had received in the first half and lost the match without scoring.

Three matches, which are the half of matches of the group stage of the Levain Cup, have finished in this section, and Cerezo are in second place with four points, one win, one draw and one loss. The next section will be in two weeks at home, and they will play against Kyoto again. After the match, Ryuya Nishio said toward the next section, "Only the result can show that we have changed. The members who stand on the pitch have to do our best and obtain the three winning points.” The regrets that they received in the game can only be cleared in the game.
